Code with Annotations side-by-side with code-generated figure

Description

Hello there!

1. I am writing HTML content for my Data Science class.
2. I am using knitr code-cell options to place code and code-output side by side.
3. Along with the code-cell options, I create two columns in the layout, which contain code on the LHS and the figure on the RHS.
4. Since the code option EXPLICITLY has to say eval: false, any annotations I make to highlight specific code lines DO NOT SEEM TO WORK.

Here is the code I use to create two columns, one containing R code and the other containing 
the figure generated. I am attempting to highlight specific lines in the code using "#<n>" syntax.

The code line is not annotated in the resulting HTML. 

What could I be doing wrong?

@arvindvenkatadri Why would you expect the annotation to show up if you actually don't annotate anything?

Please read the documentation on the feature: https://quarto.org/docs/authoring/code-annotation.html, especially the syntax section.

In Quarto, options use dash: ref-label:, even if it works, better to use the harmonised Quarto syntax.
