printf in the kernel

Is printf allowed in a SYCL kernel ?

I get the error "SYCL kernel cannot call a variadic function".

According to the SYCL specification version 1.2.1. (https://www.khronos.org/registry/SYCL/specs/sycl-1.2.1.pdf):
"The functionality of the printf function is covered by the stream class".
