hasOne & hasMany not working with foreignKey in ObjectId

Example:

User {
_id: ObjectId('dfsfasdhfj4252345hasdjklfsdf')
name: 'Alex'
}
Sale {
_id: ObjectId('asdfasdf8789a7sdf9adfasf'),
idUser: ObjectId('dfsfasdhfj4252345hasdjklfsdf')
}

in User class:

public function sales()
{
    return $this->hasMany(Sale::class, 'idUser', '_id');
}

and

$user->sales

result: []

I know it's been a month, but I was experiencing this and found the issue. hasMany() is called as hasMany('Model', 'foreign_key', 'local_key'); and it looks like you've reversed your keys.

As a side note, it looks like Eloquent's normal assumptions about foreign keys don't hold true as expected with this library - I have collections called questions and question_types, with a question_type_id field on questions, and the relationship didn't work until I explicitly specified the keys in my hasMany and belongsTo calls on the model.

It is now clear to me that BelongsTo and BelongsToMany relations look for string Ids... while mongodb $lookup look for ObjectId Ids.
I'm seriously thinking that currently the only solution is creating both attributes to satisfy both methods.

For example:

"user_id" : "5ba51e861d41c875c578b939"  for BelongsTo relation
"user_object_id" : ObjectId("5ba51e861d41c875c578b939") for $lookup relation

Maybe in the Model Observer, every time the document is saved, I can create/update the *_object_id attribute.

What do you think?

It's almost 1 year and I'm getting the same issue also.

This is bad because I have to take all the relationships manually.

Yes I found the solution for this issue, and the problem is sometimes the mongodb create relationships as ObjectId type and sometimes the dump stupid programmer (case of previous one which work here) him create the _id's for mongo db manually messy with all the mongodb relationship system.

But anyway still and issue on this because the you need to check if the $id relationship is a valid Mongo ObjectId.
