That's not a helpful response, nor is closing the issue before the situation has been resolved.

I, the maintainer of php in MacPorts, am in the process of updating our ports. I see the release announcements on php.net and tarballs on the download site for new versions of php 8.0, 8.1, and 8.3, but not 8.2. I find this peculiar, so I go searching the issue tracker, find this issue, and subscribe to it, in the hopes of learning why this has happened and of being notified once it is rectified.

The php-8.2.9 tag was created 6 days ago. It is weird to me that the release tarballs and announcement are not posted yet.

Although I agree and understand that php.net announcements are the source of truth, other sites have already announced the availability of 8.2.9 here, here, and here. There are even Windows binaries of 8.2.9 posted here. One could be forgiven for thinking that 8.2.9 has been released, and for wanting an explanation for the missing release announcement and official tarballs.

PHP 8.2.9 has not been announced yet, as the Windows builds were built on the old git tag and should be rebuilt.

As soon as the new Windows build is ready, I'll announce PHP 8.2.9.

The release announcements have always been the official means of communicating that new releases were ready for use. This last release unfortunately had a rare situation of a non-trivial bug being discovered and fixed after the tag was created but before the release was ready to announce. PR #11873 seeks to change the official process to not allow retagging, which is the most actionable piece of work there can be, because yes: the choice to retag caused some issues, including creating confusion for people who assumed tags had more significance than they were actually being given.

If you want to rely on the tags then that's your choice. If not then that's your choice. Either way, 8.2.9 has not been officially released yet, so do with that information what you wish.

I was getting in touch to see if there was any information available on when the release is coming (to php.net), since there's no news on the mailing lists. The purpose of this issue was not to bitch about your release process, which is what the other discussion had become.
